FAQ

Questions & answers.

Everything you need to know before your first Sauté Sundays. Still have a question? Email us at hello@sautesundays.com.

How does it work?+

Each month we pick a cookbook. You choose a recipe, make it at home, and bring it to share at our gathering. Everyone signs up for a different dish so the table ends up with a full spread from the same book. No duplicates, lots of variety. You can find the recipe sign-up index on our RSVP page once you register.

What do I need to bring?+

A homemade dish from the featured cookbook, your own plate and cutlery (we try to keep things sustainable), anything needed for safe food transport, a container for leftovers, and an appetite. You're also welcome to bring a drink to share, though it's optional.

Can I come without cooking?+

No, and this is the one rule we don't bend. Everyone cooks. That's the whole club. 35 people who each made something is a very different room from 35 people who each ordered something.

I don't know anyone. Is that weird?+

It's the normal case. Most people come alone the first time. You'll be holding a dish you made, which is the easiest conversation starter that exists, and everyone at the table cooked from the same book so you already have something to compare notes on.

Where can I get the recipes?+

While there's no pressure to buy the cookbook, we encourage supporting the authors if you're able. You can also check it out on Libby, borrow from a friend, or browse it at your local bookstore. If you're having trouble accessing the recipes, feel free to reach out and we'll help.

When do I have to pick my recipe?+

Sign-ups close 12 hours before the event. You'll get the link in your confirmation email and a reminder before the deadline. If you miss it, your spot goes to someone on the waitlist. With 10+ people waiting every month, we can't hold seats open.

Can I join if I have a food allergy?+

Yes, absolutely. There are a few ways we handle this: when you RSVP, there's a space to note any allergies or dietary restrictions; our recipe sign-up index also has a field for this so other attendees can see what's in each dish before the night; and at the event itself, dishes are labelled with common allergens so you can navigate the table safely. If you want to flag anything directly, you're also welcome to email us or DM us on Instagram before the event.

Is it free?+

Yes. Sauté Sundays is completely free to attend. The only cost is the groceries for the dish you make and bring to share. No ticket, no cover charge, no catch.

How do I get early access to RSVP?+

Events sell out fast. Early access goes to our newsletter subscribers first. Sign up via the Contact page to make sure you get the link before spots open to the public. Our WhatsApp community is a great place to ask questions and connect with other members, but early access codes are sent via newsletter only.

Where are events held?+

We're mainly at Jrew's, 165 Niagara St in downtown Toronto, which fits 35 people. We do host somewhere else occasionally, and when we do, the address for that night goes out with your RSVP confirmation.

What time should I arrive?+

Doors at 6:15. We start eating at 6:30 and we mean it. The table works because everyone sits down together. If you're running late, message the WhatsApp group so we know. Repeated late arrivals move you to the back of the line for early access next month. It's not a punishment, it's just how we keep 35 people's food warm at the same time.

Is the venue accessible?+

We're mainly at Jrew's, 165 Niagara St. There are no steps at the entrance, and the washroom is on the same level as the table with no steps either. We do host somewhere else occasionally, so if you have a specific access question about a particular night, email us and we'll answer honestly.

What if I can't make it anymore?+

Cancel on Luma as early as you can so we can offer your seat to the waitlist. Late cancels move you to the back of the line for early access next month. Life happens and we're not keeping a grudge list, but a seat that goes empty is a seat someone wanted.

How do I suggest a cookbook?+

Reply to any of our newsletters with your suggestion, or send us a DM on Instagram. We love hearing what people want to cook from. It directly shapes what we pick each month.
